Florida Immigration Attorney

by Nelson Taylor

There's a new use for immigration law. It's increasingly being used as an anti-terrorism tool and that means Florida immigration attorney have a whole new clientele that feel they're being discriminated against by the US government who targets immigrants they consider likely to be terrorists and charge them with immigration fraud...at least that's what the immigrants claim.

The stories are becoming commonplace. Over a year before the attacks of 9/11, one immigrant was under investigation for fraudulent commercial driver's licenses. After the attacks, the FBI pursued the case more vigorously as possibly having a link to terrorism. Any connection to terrorism was quickly dispelled but the Iraqi immigrant has to live with the stigma of having been under FBI investigation with possible links to al Quada. How would you like to be an Iraqi immigrant who people will always consider a possible terrorist going forward? He also needed a Florida immigration attorney to defend himself against the charges.

Recently one Lebanese immigrant who is now a US citizen was awoken by the shuddering of a helicopter overhead followed by pounding on the front door by the police. He was arrested by an anti-terrorism task force who charged him with immigration fraud. Perhaps he did lie on his immigration papers but it's also possible that he's the latest victim of immigration laws being used as an anti-terrorism tool. Either way, he'll need a Florida immigration attorney to defend himself against the immigration fraud charges.

It's rare that government officials will go to such lengths to capture someone accused of something as seemingly benign as immigration fraud. The previously mentioned raid was carried out at dawn by the FBI and Homeland Security agents in a SWAT style manner because according to their information, the immigrant had weapons training.

The anti-terrorism effort is being advanced by enforcing immigration laws for good reason. In fact immigration charges have been filed against nearly 1,000 suspects scrutinized by the Department of Homeland Security. Government officials explain that while it's difficult to prosecute terrorism charges successfully, it's relatively simple to use immigration laws to quickly detain suspected terrorists who may be planning attacks. Terror suspects and even those suspected of supporting terrorists groups can quickly be deported with charges as simple as overstaying a visa.

If the ultimate goal is to simply remove the suspected terrorist from the country, there are easier means to accomplish this task than to try proving the immigrant is involved in terrorists activities. It's often much simpler to use immigration laws to achieve the objective. The US government considers the use of immigration laws to be vitally important in fighting terrorism. One of the by-products is more business for immigration lawyers in all states, not just Florida immigration attorneys.
