10 tips on finding the right USA immigration lawyer

by Ger van Hees

Follow these tips to find the right immigration lawyer:

1. Keep yourself well informed about the information on the web.

2. While looking for an immigration lawyer, make sure you hire a good lawyer.

3. Check the sites that update regularly, provide link of the USCIS processing times, and visa bulletins.

4. Check out who the host site is and do not forget to check on their credentials and sources.

5. Beware of all those people who make promises that sound too good to be true. It mostly isn't true in these situations.

6. Collect information about the academic qualifications of the lawyer you intend hiring. Also, gather information about the bar associations and similar credentials.

7. The first and the foremost thing one should check while looking for an immigration lawyer is the membership. The lawyer should be the member of American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).

8. Association shows commitment of the attorney to a particular area of practice.

9. In case the immigration lawyer does not have any web site you can locate the lawyer through other means by which he keeps in touch with the clients.

10. The attorney should have several years of experience in immigration law. An immigration lawyer cannot keep up with his area of law while practicing in some other area.
